U.S. President said on Friday that his eldest son had reimbursed the expenses for the two-day celebrations in the Bahamas following his wedding in May, which were covered by a Russian businessman linked to the Kremlin.

"It is totally allowed and many people organize parties (...) but, as I understand it, he paid him back," Trump said when an AFP reporter asked him in the Oval Office if it had been appropriate for Donald Trump Jr. to accept the gift.

"When I heard this story I asked about it and he told me: 'No, I'm going to pay him back, Dad', and that was a while ago, so I've heard that he's already paid him," the president stated.

Donald Trump Jr., better known as Don Jr., married Bettina Anderson in Florida on May 21, and two days later they celebrated the wedding on a private island in the Bahamas. It was the first couple's second marriage, the president's eldest son.
