The Attorney General's Office of the Mexican state of Morelos (center) released the body of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte to her family this Friday. She was stabbed on September 12 in the municipality of Cuautla, one day after the alleged perpetrator, known as "El Trompas," was arrested.

Several members of the 21-year-old's family arrived at the state prosecutor's office facilities, located in Temixco on the outskirts of Cuernavaca (the state capital), and were accompanied by the Spanish Consul in Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez, sources from the state prosecutor's office told EFE.
Also present were representatives of the Executive Commission for Victim Attention (CEAV), as well as the Attorney General of Morelos, Fernando Blumenkron Escobar, and the Secretary of Government, Edgar Maldonado.
"We have formally handed over Claudia's body to her father, Mr. Valentín. (...) We explained the procedure and the corresponding identification so that he could take Claudia's body. That was how the proceeding went," Blumenkron indicated to the media.
The release of the body for repatriation took place one day after the arrest of Francisco Javier, alias "El Trompas," who has been identified as the alleged perpetrator of the femicide.
The man was captured in Cuautla, the scene of the crime located 120 kilometers south of Mexico City, after federal and state authorities executed an arrest warrant against him.
"El Trompas" was transferred and admitted Thursday night to the Cuautla State Center for Social Reintegration (Cereso), where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authority.
The Morelos Prosecutor's Office has already announced that it will charge the suspect with the crime of femicide and will seek a maximum sentence of 70 years in prison.
Tacoronte, a 21-year-old from the Canary Islands, was murdered with a bladed weapon. She had arrived in Mexico in mid-August for an academic exchange between the University of Granada and the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM).
The murder has sparked indignation inside and outside Mexico after it was revealed that Tacoronte is the fourth UAEM student murdered in just seven months, following the cases of Kimberly Ramos, Karol Toledo, and Michelle Itzayana Fuentes, which had already generated protests and student strikes.
