Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this Monday that her government, through the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE), is in contact with the Spanish Consulate to clarify the murder of Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, a 21-year-old Spanish student who was completing an academic exchange in the central state of Morelos.
“The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) is already in contact regarding this regrettable homicide,” the president affirmed during her morning press conference.

The Mexican president detailed that the Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection (SSPC) and the federal Security Cabinet are supporting the Attorney General's Office of the State of Morelos in the investigations.
“And the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs is already in contact with the Consulate of Spain,” she concluded.
Tacoronte Aguilera was a fourth-year Early Childhood Education student at the University of Granada and was on an academic mobility exchange at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), where she was murdered in a crime that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating as a femicide, according to local authorities on Sunday.
According to Morelos prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron, the events occurred on Saturday at the House of Culture in Cuautla, a municipality located about 100 kilometers south of Mexico City.
According to the information, the state Prosecutor's Office is investigating the crime as a femicide, in accordance with the protocol applied to violent deaths of women, while determining the circumstances of the murder and whether there were gender-based motives.
Initial reports suggest that the young woman was attacked with a bladed weapon during a suspected attempted robbery in the vicinity of the House of Culture, where she tried to take shelter before being caught by her assailant.
So far, the Prosecutor's Office has not ruled out any line of investigation.
Following the murder, the UAEM expressed its “profound indignation” over the crime and demanded that the authorities conduct an “immediate, exhaustive, and strict gender-perspective” investigation to clarify the facts and avoid impunity.
