American actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in the "Scream" horror film franchise, passed away after consuming oxycodone, an opioid painkiller, adulterated with fentanyl, according to reports by TMZ.
Hayden Panettiere ingested a deadly pill on the day she passed away, and according to several police sources consulted by the outlet, they believe it was oxycodone adulterated with fentanyl.
TMZ asserts that its sources are all linked to the case and have direct knowledge, noting that Hayden had a long-term "drug dealer" in Los Angeles who supplied her with various black-market medications, including oxycodone.
"We are told that Hayden consumed several drugs purchased from her dealer during a flight from Los Angeles to South Carolina the day before her death," the outlet specializing in celebrity news notes.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Los Angeles is reconstructing the relationship between Hayden and her dealer, attempting to trace the origin of the deadly pill.
The actress, model, and singer, who passed away at age 36 this past August, began her career as a child star and had a long career in television and film.
She is remembered for her role as Claire Bennet in the hit series "Heroes," but above all, as Juliette Barnes in the musical drama "Nashville," for which she received two Golden Globe nominations—a series she starred in for 128 episodes between 2012 and 2018.
She also starred in "Remember the Titans," "Raising Helen," "Ice Princess," and "Scream 4."
Panettiere spoke openly about her personal struggles from childhood to adulthood in her memoir titled "This Is Me: A Reckoning," published in May.
The actress was found in cardiac arrest when emergency services arrived at a residence located in the Judson Mill Lofts residential complex in Greenville, South Carolina, following a distress call.
The preliminary autopsy performed on the deceased ruled out signs of foul play.
