British King Charles III stressed today that his son Harry, who returned at the end of August with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, to the United Kingdom after a six-year absence, remains outside the royal family and they will not have the right to use titles such as His/Her Royal Highness.
"There will be no changes to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their styling as His/Her Royal Highness remains in limbo and will not be used," notes the King, who says he is responding in this way to a series of requests to clarify this matter.
The letter, signed by a representative of Charles III but "under his direction," recalls that it was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who chose "respect for their financial independence and the protection of their privacy," and this "will continue to be fully respected," notes the document, which EFE has been able to access.
The British King insisted that Harry and Meghan are "private citizens with commercial and charitable interests" while they reside in the United Kingdom and that the so-called 'Sandringham Agreement,' through which they renounced being working members of the royal family in January 2020, remains in effect.
He also specified that this status outside the crown does not interfere with the philanthropic work of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which is "a personal matter for the two of them and is carried out privately," and that any type of communication corresponding to the couple must be done through their own office, independent of Buckingham Palace.
Prince Harry, the youngest son of Charles III and the late Princess Diana, returned to the United Kingdom on August 26th together with his wife, Meghan, and their two children, Archie -7 years old- and Lilibet -5 years old- to settle in the country after six years living in California (United States).
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have enrolled their two children in a British school for this term and, according to local media, they are reportedly trying to move to the Cotswolds area, in southwestern England.
The last meeting between Charles III, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children took place privately last July, at the King's residence in Highgrove, Gloucestershire (western England) and subsequently, they visited the mansion of Harry's maternal uncle, Earl Spencer, where his mother, Diana of Wales, is buried.
According to the media, Harry is reportedly still trying to manage with police authorities the level of publicly-funded security that his family deserves -as they are not official members of the royal family-, an issue over which he has lost a long legal battle in the courts.
