The former Mexican first lady Angélica Rivera, who served during the presidency of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018), announced on Monday on her social media channels that production has begun alongside her daughter, actress Sofía Castro, on an autobiographical series that will arrive on the Netflix platform in 2027.
The entertainment platform detailed in a statement that the project will explore "the intimate story of how one of the most recognized and discussed figures on Mexican television became first lady, with all the challenges and sacrifices she never imagined she would face."
"Telling my story from my essence is an act of freedom and courage. For years, I was a character in the public conversation. Today, with this series, I want to show the woman behind the headlines, with her mistakes, her fears, and her ability to reinvent herself," Rivera mentioned in the same note.
The platform explained that the project will feature the same producer as 'Luis Miguel: The Series' and will star Castro, who recently participated in the television series 'Hotel Todo Incluido' alongside the son of actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez, José Eduardo Derbez.
"Playing my mom during the most complex and vulnerable stage of her life is an honor, a great responsibility, and the biggest challenge of my career," said Castro (Mexico City, 1996), without specifying whether her mother would be part of the production's cast.
"I am honored that Netflix has trusted me to accompany her in this process and to help her tell such an intimate and personal story that demands a lot of me not only as an actress, but also as a daughter. It is a great opportunity to be able to tell a story that, in the end, is also part of mine," the young actress added.
Angélica Rivera was the first lady of Mexico from December 1, 2012, to November 30, 2018, during the administration of former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, whom she divorced in 2019.
She also has a prominent career as an actress, a profession she decided to resume in 2024 with a new version of the successful soap opera 'Mirada de Mujer'.
