American actress Sydney Sweeney could face legal charges after being filmed on the iconic Hollywood sign in the hills of Los Angeles, hanging a string of bras to promote an underwear brand, according to a video released this Monday by TMZ.
The footage shows the 'Euphoria' star and her team dressed in black climbing toward the top of the historic white letters to hang a handful of bras.
"Good job," Sweeney is heard saying as she smiles while taking in the scene under the cover of night.
Although the actress obtained permission to film the Hollywood sign, which is located in a fenced enclosure with public access restricted, she could face a legal problem for climbing the sign.
"No permission was granted to do this, as is required," the president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the sign, indicated in a statement to the specialized magazine.
It is illegal to touch, climb, or physically alter the Hollywood sign, access to which is strictly limited to the surrounding trails. Crossing the protective fences is usually punishable by immediate arrest and trespassing charges.
¿QUÉ ES EL CÁRTEL DE HOLLYWOD Y POR QUÉ ES TAN FAMOSO?
The Hollywood Sign was erected in 1923 by order of Harry Chandler, who was the publisher of the Los Angeles Times newspaper. Originally, the "Hollywoodland" sign was a billboard for a real estate development.
However, shortly thereafter, the $21,000 sign became a giant marquee for the city.
In 1949, the last four letters were removed so that it simply read Hollywood, and almost three decades later, it was renovated on the initiative of Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy.
