Princess Diana and actor Clint Eastwood starred in one of the lesser-known moments of that historic night of dancing, glamour, and politics at the White House. Did they have an affair after dancing together? Did Lady Di cheat on the then-Prince Charles? This is what is known about the relationship they had.
On November 9, 1985, during the dinner hosted by Ronald and Nancy Reagan for Diana and Charles, the princess danced with several Hollywood stars, including Eastwood and John Travolta. In fact, the photograph of Diana with Travolta became one of the most famous images of the royal family and the social and political life of the United States.
Although the dance with Travolta grabbed the spotlight, Diana also shared the floor with figures such as Tom Selleck, Neil Diamond, Ronald Reagan himself, and Clint Eastwood.
The evening brought together some 80 guests and featured a selection of Hollywood figures. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library archives hold photographs showing Diana dancing with Eastwood during the celebration.

The meeting between Diana and Eastwood has once again generated interest due to versions published decades later regarding a supposed chemistry between the two. Radar Online maintains, citing an anonymous source, that a special connection existed between the two actors that night.
"The chemistry between them was very real and incredible. They were looking into each other's eyes. It was as if Diana and Clint were the only two people in the room. She didn't care if Charles saw them," the media outlet quotes the informant.
Apparently, the presence of John Travolta, Tom Selleck, and Clint Eastwood was at Diana's request for the reception organized by the Reagans. After their encounter, Lady Di remained "reserved about exactly what happened" between the two during and after their meeting at the celebration. The actor from The Bridges of Madison County also kept quiet about what occurred.
According to what was reported by the media outlet, Diana, who was 24 years old at the time, was a fan of the 55-year-old Eastwood. When they met, Lady Di acted "flirtatious" and "euphoric," like an admirer of the actor and his films; "when they met in person and shared that intimate dance, everything changed completely."
The story of Diana and Eastwood did not end at the Reagan dinner, at least in terms of public encounters.
Years later, when Diana had already separated from the then-Prince Charles, the actor visited Kensington Palace in the context of a project related to a charity. Her personal chef, Darren McGrady, recalled that Diana decided to prepare a special meal for him.
McGrady later recounted that Diana asked for a rack of lamb to be prepared for Eastwood. After the meal, the actor approached the chef and, according to McGrady himself, told him: "It is the best lamb I have ever tasted." The chef has also recounted this episode in his own memoirs and interviews.
These encounters fueled speculation over the years about a possible closeness between the princess and the Hollywood star.
However, the available historical material confirms that they danced together at the White House and that they met again years later, but it does not prove that they had an affair or a relationship behind the back of the then-Prince of Wales.
