What is happening in Selena Quintanilla's family? In recent hours, the names of the Queen of Tex-Mex, her brother A.B. Quintanilla, and her sister Suzette have been trending, but now due to a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Here is what is happening.
As confirmed by the music producer, A.B., a lawsuit is underway against Suzette Quintanilla, which also involves their father, Abraham Quintanilla, and Selena herself.
In a statement shared on social media, the Kumbia Kings leader said that there is a legal process he initiated against his family after "years of accumulated situations, decisions, and circumstances" that he had not previously disclosed out of "respect, loyalty, and the family bond."
"Yes, there is a lawsuit related to Suzette Arriaga, as well as facts and circumstances related to my father Abraham Quintanilla," A.B. noted. As he detailed, the lawsuit began a few months ago due to conflicts dating back years but had not been revealed: "It comes from years. Years of accumulated situations, decisions, and circumstances that for a long time I chose to remain silent about out of respect, loyalty, and because it was my own family."
The producer and creator of many of Selena's hits did not reveal the reasons for the lawsuit, but reports suggest the case is related to a dispute over 50 million dollars.
Related accounts claim that the lawsuit involves his father due to issues with his inheritance, Selena's legacy, investments in the family business, projects, and music rights.
Journalist Javier Ceriani points out that the lawsuit against Suzette is linked to her role as executor of Selena's estate and her desire to sell 50 percent of the brand created by the family decades ago.
"A.B. Quintanilla is suing for millions against the estate, the legacy of the Queen of Tex-Mex, managed by Suzette Quintanilla," the journalist notes, adding that the sister of both celebrities wants to "sell 50 percent of the estate at a laughable price (...) The lawsuit is for lack of payments as a producer, sales points for copies sold, and lack of access to the financial movements of the company that represents everything regarding Selena," he added.
So far, the producer and singer has not given further details about the lawsuit and only anticipated in his statement that he will make more declarations about it in the future: "Out of respect for the legal process, for now, I will not grant interviews or publicly enter into the details of the case. But I want to make one thing very clear: There are years of history. There are facts. There is evidence. There are circumstances. And there is much that is still unknown. When the right moment comes, I will speak. I will tell my full version and explain why I had to reach this point (...)".
At the end of his text, the producer launched a message referring to the work he has done and his authorship of songs that were successful thanks to Selena's performance over the years; this statement has been considered a jab at his sister, who apparently has only received royalties for that musical work.
"And while everything takes its course, I will continue doing what I have done for almost 40 years: work and generate my own. I was never one to wait for a check from someone else's effort to arrive at my door," he noted.
Regarding this controversy, Ceriani claimed that the lawsuit could be made public in 9 days from a United States court, where A.B. is demanding authorship credits, royalties, "payments, expenses, and the entire business behind Selena." Faced with the controversy, Suzette has remained silent on her social media.
