American actress Selma Blair was arrested following an alleged altercation on a flight from Los Angeles to New York that left two crew members injured, authorities said on Monday.

The "Legally Blonde" and "Cruel Intentions" actress was detained at John F. Kennedy Airport after the Delta Air Lines flight landed on Sunday night, following reports that a passenger was engaging in physical violence.

"Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the behavior attributed to her," her representative said.

Blair, 54, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was taken to a hospital for an evaluation along with one of the two injured flight attendants.

"After landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition," her representative added.

The FBI, which is investigating the incident, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A Delta spokesperson said the airline has "zero tolerance for unruly or illegal behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
