The celebrity's trip to Europe comes amidst the controversy sparked by the memoirs of her ex-husband, Joe Manganiello, who has made negative allegations about their marriage and accused her of mocking him on several occasions.
According to leaked excerpts from the book Bloodlines, his health began to deteriorate after marrying Sofía in 2015; his digestive tract became ulcerated, he stopped walking, had severe headaches, and suffered from rashes with blisters.
In the midst of his physical struggle, his mental health weakened to the point of contemplating suicide in 2019. All these problems caused his marriage to the actress to become "completely devoid of emotion," and he revealed that Sofía refused to provide him with emotional support, such as a hug.
In addition to this, Joe claimed that Sofía mocked him for adopting his dog, Bubbles, who served as emotional support and a reason to keep living amidst his health complications; after receiving his pet, the actor sold the weapon he intended to use to end his life.
Regarding family matters, Joe revealed that he gave up on having children with the actress for two reasons: first, because they had already tried to have children through in vitro fertilization, which resulted in failures, and second, because he did not want Vergara to be left a widow, in case he were to die from his health problems, caring for a child who was not biologically hers.
After their separation, Sofía revealed in several interviews that one of the reasons for their divorce was the fact that she was the one who did not want to have children, as she did not want to be an "old mother."
