The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Friday the resignation of Alejandro Gertz Manero, 86, from the leadership of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and that the former prosecutor agreed to join the foreign service as a diplomatic representative.
“I offered the prosecutor that he could join as Mexico's representative in an embassy and he accepted this proposal,” the president said during her morning press conference.
“We will announce soon where he will go because there must be a process with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the country and until the credentials are accepted, it cannot be announced; that is a rule,” she explained.
The president informed that, following the departure of Gertz Manero, the former capital city prosecutor Ernestina Godoy remains as the person in charge of the FGR office in accordance with the law.
