The name Alexis Vega has been trending on social media after declaring his intentions to quit the Mexican National Team now that Rafa Márquez has taken the role of head coach.
The Toluca star has reportedly made a decision about his future after not being called up for Márquez's debut against Colombia and due to his limited participation in the 2026 World Cup.
“I came out of it feeling bad because I didn't have much participation [in the World Cup]. It was frustration with myself, not with the coach or anyone else. Obviously, I wanted to play more, but well, that's how it is,” noted the forward for the Toluca Red Devils after the match against Cruz Azul.
“I am really enjoying being in Toluca; it is a conversation I am having with my wife, a very thoughtful conversation in which I am seeing whether I continue with the National Team or not,” he commented, adding that he will soon release a statement expressing his decision regarding the Mexican National Team.

After Vega's statements, Rafa Márquez commented after the Mexico vs. Colombia match that he knows his game and the talent he has with the ball, adding that they had not played him because he has an issue with his knee: “The match just ended. So I have no idea, if I need to talk, I will. I think he is having a good tournament with Toluca, I already know him, I know what he is like, I know how important he can be for the group. We decided to give him a rest because we know he always carries an issue in his knee and obviously we want to take care of him.”
