The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) rescheduled this Tuesday the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana matches that were to be played this week in Colombia, where a 7.4 magnitude earthquake rocked much of the country the day before, causing the deaths of at least 181 people.
On its website, the governing body of South American soccer indicated that its Competitions and Operations Department determined that the Copa Libertadores round of 16 duel between Colombia's Deportes Tolima and Ecuador's Independiente del Valle will be played on Tuesday, August 18, starting at 19:30 local time (00:30 GMT on Wednesday).
This match was scheduled for today at 19:30 local time at the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium in the city of Ibagué, a venue that remains the site for next Tuesday's match.
The return leg will be played on August 25 at 19:30 local time (00:30 GMT on the 26th) at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium in Quito, Ecuador.
Likewise, Conmebol rescheduled for August 19 the round of 16 Copa Sudamericana match that Santa Fe and River Plate were to play this Wednesday at 19:30 local time (00:30 GMT on Thursday) at El Campín Stadium in Bogotá.
The return leg will be held on August 26 at 21:30 local time (00:30 GMT on the 27th) at the Mâs Monumental Stadium in the city of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
Monday's earthquake, which has led the Colombian government to declare a "national disaster" situation, was felt in Bogotá, Cali, Popayán, Manizales, Armenia, Pereira, Medellín, and other cities in the center and west of the country, as well as in Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela.
The government raised the death toll from the earthquake to 181 this Tuesday, although regional authorities' tallies account for at least 240 deaths.
