Juliette Willmann, 29-year-old skier, died in an avalanche during a trip to Argentina

French skier Juliette Willmann died Tuesday at the age of 29 due to an "avalanche in Argentina," the French Ski Federation (FFS) announced this Wednesday.

The freeride and mountain skiing specialist won the Freeride World Qualifier in 2018 and participated in the Freeride World Tour in 2022, the FFS highlighted in its text.

According to the specialized website Ski Chrono, Willmann had traveled to Argentina with her boyfriend and had to be rushed to a hospital after being injured in an avalanche.

The president of the Chamonix mountain guide company, Olivier Greber, confirmed the athlete's death to the AFP.

"Pierre-Idris Mehdi (Juliette Willmann's boyfriend) is recovering well, but is emotionally devastated. I believe they had just gotten married. He has been a guide here for two years and is part of the young guides in the valley. I think they went on this trip in mid-August, but I don't know the reasons," he noted.

Willmann belonged to a family with a great tradition in French skiing: her father Philippe was a coach for the national alpine ski team and her sister Alison was also an international competitor for the European country.
