Real Madrid's Portuguese coach, José Mourinho, considered that his team played "a great game" despite losing to Real Betis (1-0) and asserted that the Madrid side was "very dominant" and created "a great many goal-scoring opportunities," thus acknowledging his frustration with the result.
"I think the team played a great game. Sometimes you lose and you don't know why; sometimes you lose and you don't know how to explain it. Very dominant, imperial center-backs, they controlled absolutely everything, lots of attacking play, a great many goal-scoring opportunities," declared Mourinho in a press conference.
The Portuguese coach pointed out that even a draw would have seemed like an insufficient result to him given his team's merits: "if it ends in a draw, we leave frustrated because we did more, imagine with the defeat," he stated.
Mourinho also highlighted the performance of young Carlos Espí, the author of the goal that gave Betis the victory, although it remains to be determined whether the play was preceded by an offside.
"Carlos Espí, if he has ten minutes and scores a fantastic goal, which might later be offside or not, he did his job well. He has great potential and will always get better, because he is also humble, a hard worker, and wants to learn. I couldn't be happier with the kid," he stated.
When asked about the controversies of the match, Mourinho avoided giving an opinion as he had not been able to review the plays: "I haven't seen in detail, I haven't seen, I haven't seen in the dressing room, I cannot comment," he replied. EFE
