Spanish defender Sergio Ramos said goodbye to Club de Fútbol Monterrey with a social media post, in which he expresses his gratitude for the experience and the treatment received in Mexico, and the pride he felt during this stage "for wearing the Rayados captain's armband."
"Saying goodbye is never easy. An era that began full of excitement in February comes to an end, one that has allowed me to discover a country, a city, a brand of football... and which leaves me with many new experiences and, above all, many friends," said Ramos on his personal X account, a day after making public his departure from Mexican football and the end of his time in Monterrey, where he spent a little less than a year.
"I will always feel proud to have worn the Rayados captain's armband, to have led the team in the first Club World Cup in its new format, to have battled in the Clausura, in the Apertura, in the Leagues Cup, in the Concacaf Champions Cup... and to have defended the 'Gigante de Acero' (Steel Giant) with courage by your side in every match we played at home," said the 2010 World Cup champion with Spain in his message.
Ramos highlighted his commitment on the pitch. "I have given everything on and off the field to be able to perform at my best. 34 matches, more than 3,000 minutes, 8 goals, and so many emotions that cannot be described in numbers," he said.
"To the club, my dear teammates, the coaching staff, the employees, to everyone, thank you. And, above all, thank you to you, the fans, who have made me feel your warmth and affection from the first moment I stepped into the city. I will always remember this stage of my career with nostalgia and I will always say with pride, 'Long live Monterrey!'," concludes the 39-year-old Spanish player, who spent sixteen years at Real Madrid, four years over two spells at Sevilla, and two at Paris Saint-Germain.
