Students in Mexico already have one of the most anticipated breaks of the 2026-2027 school year marked on their calendar: a four-day long weekend. When is this long weekend? We share the dates confirmed by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) and everything you need to know so you can prepare.
The school year has barely started and students will be able to enjoy a much longer break than the one in September, as some children and teenagers were unable to rest on September 14 and 15 because it was marked as a day of normal activities, so they participated in the events organized by their schools.
When will the October 2026 long weekend be?
The long weekend will be as follows:
- Viernes 30 de octubre: no habrá clases por sesión del Consejo Técnico Escolar
- Sábado 31 de octubre: fin de semana
- Domingo 1 de noviembre: fin de semana
- Lunes 2 de noviembre: suspensión de labores docentes por el Día de Muertos.
Therefore, students will have four consecutive days without classes, from Friday, October 30, to Monday, November 2, 2026. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 3.
Who will get the 4-day long weekend?
The (SEP) calendar applies to public and private preschool, primary, and secondary schools incorporated into the National Educational System.
Is there another long weekend in November 2026?
Yes; the calendar includes more dates without classes during November. After the long weekend, students will not have classes on:
- Lunes 16 de noviembre: suspensión de labores docentes por la conmemoración de la Revolución Mexicana.
- Viernes 27 de noviembre: sesión ordinaria del Consejo Técnico Escolar.
These dates also create three-day rest periods when combined with weekends.
Does the long weekend apply in all states of Mexico?
The national SEP calendar is applicable to public and private basic education schools incorporated into the National Educational System in the 32 federal entities.
However, local educational authorities may request adjustments to the calendar under the rules established by the SEP. Therefore, families should also consider notifications from their own school if there is any authorized modification.
When do the December 2026 holidays begin?
The SEP establishes that winter break will take place from December 21, 2026, to January 5, 2027, with a return to classes on January 7, 2027.
