James Fishback, a Republican candidate for governor of Florida, has proposed creating a 50% "sin tax" on OnlyFans models in the state, where Miami is considered the national "capital" of the platform for having the highest proportion of these creators in the United States.

"If you are an OnlyFans model and you reside in Florida, be prepared to pay 50% of your income to the state. It's called a sin tax because it is a sin, number one. But the purpose of the sin tax, in economics, is to disincentivize and discourage a behavior," Fishback declared on the NXR podcast.

The money raised would be used to fund the education system, crisis centers for pregnant women, and the creation of the state government's first "czar" in charge of men's mental health, detailed the candidate, who is seeking to succeed current Governor Ron DeSantis.

Fishback, 31, and director of the investment firm Azoria Partners, anticipated raising "hundreds of millions of dollars" with the tax, which he also promoted as a way to push people away from the platform.

"As governor of Florida, I don't want young women, who would otherwise be mothers raising families, having children, to be selling their bodies online to sick men," explained the businessman, the son of a Colombian mother and an American father.

The tax would particularly impact Miami, considered the U.S. capital of OnlyFans for having 1,110 creators per 100,000 residents, the highest proportion in the United States, according to a study by the company Madhouse Labs.

Additionally, Miami is the fourth city in the world that spends the most on the platform, $374,921 per 10,000 inhabitants in 2025, according to the specialized site 'Only Guider,' while the second is Orlando, also in Florida, with spending of $466,430.

The United States was the country with the most revenue destined for the platform, a total of more than $2.637 billion in 2025, according to the same source.

Fishback's proposal has received criticism from models in Florida, such as Sophie Rain, known for reporting $43 million in earnings in 2024, her first year on OnlyFans.

"Florida is the hub of OnlyFans. You're just going to push them (the creators) out of the state, and then what? Fishback is going after a group of people who work very hard for their money," the 21-year-old told People magazine. EFE
