At least two minors died and three people remain missing this Sunday in the state of Jalisco, western Mexico, due to emergencies related to rain and rough surf derived from Hurricane Polo, as the cyclone moves toward Baja California Sur.
The bodies of two children, aged three and 12, were located in the community of La Cuesta, in the municipality of Talpa de Allende, after a flash flood swept away the home where a family of four was located.
The two minors were members of the same four-person family previously reported missing.
"The heavy rains derived from Hurricane Polo unfortunately caused a home, with four family members inside, to be swept downstream in the community of La Cuesta, in the municipality of Talpa," Governor Pablo Lemus previously announced.
He added that since the early hours of this Sunday, two state helicopters were deployed to locate the family as soon as possible.
The minors were found approximately 700 meters from the family home, while emergency teams continue the search for their parents downstream from the riverbed, supported by the Phoenix and Black Hawk helicopters of the Government of Jalisco.
Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel are also maintaining search efforts on foot downstream from the affected area.
In Puerto Vallarta, Civil Protection is still searching for a tourist who had traveled to the beach resort from San Luis Potosí and entered the sea on Saturday, from which she could not get out due to the rough surf.
The 24-year-old woman had entered the water despite the beach having a red warning flag that prohibits swimming. The tourist is being searched for with jet skis and drones.
Heavy rains on Saturday night also caused collapses and landslides in different parts of state highway 555, which runs from Talpa de Allende to Tomatlán.
State authorities warned of the formation of Tropical Depression Eighteen-E, which is moving west-northwest and will advance toward the coast of Jalisco in the coming days, potentially intensifying rapidly as it approaches the state.
This development will favor an increase in rainfall, accompanied by high surf and strong wind gusts in the entity's coastal zone.
