United States President reiterated this Thursday that drug cartels have control of Mexico and stated that he told Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum so.

"Unfortunately, the cartels control Mexico. I told the President of Mexico. She is not happy. She is a great woman, a wonderful woman. But the cartels control Mexico," he declared during a luncheon in the White House gardens.

During his remarks, Trump boasted about the military campaign against boats that he said transport drugs by sea and warned that he has not yet launched a "full-scale ground attack."

"We know where all the bad guys are. The cartels. We know where they live and we are hitting them hard," added the leader, who considered that "Mexico should do it, but, honestly, right now they are not capable."

Trump went as far as to imitate the sound of missiles falling on the boats supposedly loaded with drugs and asserted that he feels no compassion for the people on board because, in his view, "each of those boats kills thousands and thousands of people" with fentanyl.

"The bad thing about all of this is that no one goes fishing anymore," the Republican joked, amidst criticism denouncing that these operations have extrajudicially killed fishermen.

Trump often claims that organized crime has control of Mexican territory and, during his speech in September before the UN General Assembly, he stated that Mexico is "the epicenter" of drug trafficking.

The leader is pressuring for Mexico to allow U.S. military operations within its territory against the cartels, something that opposes because she considers it would violate the country's sovereignty.
