Prince William is reportedly considering a decision related to the legacy of his mother, Princess Diana: restoring her title of Her Royal Highness, which she lost after her divorce from the then-Prince Charles. However, the heir to the British throne is supposedly waiting for his father to die to be able to do so.
According to sources cited by Radar Online, William believes that restoring Diana's title would be a personal way to honor her memory. The princess lost the style of Her Royal Highness in 1996, after her legal separation from Charles, although she retained the title of Diana, Princess of Wales.
The published account maintains that the heir has not forgotten that decision and has long contemplated the possibility of reversing it when he has the authority to do so, which would be after his father passes away.
The alleged intention is also linked to a promise William reportedly made to his mother when he was a child: to restore her royal status when he became monarch: “But he knows it will infuriate Charles, so, it is said, he will wait until after his father's death to make that decision,” the media outlet points out.

The controversy over the princess's title could return to the headlines ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death, which will be marked on August 31, 2027. Diana died at age 36 in a car accident at the Pont de l'Alma in Paris in 1997.
According to the published information, William is thinking about how to commemorate the date; for now, it has been commented that he wants a discreet tribute, while his brother, Prince Harry, is exploring the possibility of producing a documentary about his mother's life and legacy. Some sources have even pointed out that Meghan Markle could participate as a narrator.
Another source cited by Radar notes that Charles is aware of William's plans regarding the title and is not at all happy with that decision, as it is a delicate topic for the royal family.
The insider said: “[William] knows that it is an extremely delicate topic for his father, who is furious about these rumors. Any issue related to Diana's title inevitably reopens one of the most painful periods in the family's history, and Charles would prefer that those decisions not be debated publicly again.”
And added: “The difficulty lies in the fact that what William considers an affectionate tribute to Diana could be interpreted as a judgment on the decisions made during his parents' divorce. Hence the potential for serious tension with Charles.”
