A raccoon got drunk after drinking from several bottles at a liquor store in the state of Virginia, in the United States, and ended up passed out in the establishment's bathroom, according to local authorities.
An officer from the Hanover County Animal Control Department, north of the city of Richmond, found the animal lying next to the toilet last Saturday morning after receiving a call from the store.
Photographs released by the authorities show an aisle of the establishment with more than a dozen bottles of alcohol strewn on the floor, some broken, and several puddles. Another image shows the raccoon sleeping in the bathroom between the toilet and the trash can.
"Officer Martin secured our masked bandit and transported him to the shelter to sober up before being questioned," the agency joked in a statement posted on Facebook.
"After a few hours of sleep and with no signs of injury (other than perhaps a hangover and poor life choices), he was safely released back into the wild, with the hope that he has learned that breaking and entering is not the answer," the note added.
The Hanover Animal Control Department operates a shelter for the specialized care of homeless animals.
The raccoon is a forest animal that lives near rivers, although it has also learned to live in urban areas.
