Rubén Rocha Moya resumed his duties as the constitutional governor of Sinaloa this Friday, after remaining temporarily separated from his position for 112 days.
The governor reported that he requested a leave of absence from the State Congress on May 1st and that during that period he made himself available to Mexican authorities to respond to the investigation by the Attorney General's Office (FGR).

In a message addressed to the people of Sinaloa, Rocha Moya stated that he appeared personally before the Prosecutor's Office and responded to the questions and requests formulated by the Public Ministry agents.
According to the governor, after 112 days of investigation, the FGR itself reported that there are no minimum elements of evidence to support his participation in any criminal conduct.
“I have not committed any crime,” asserted Rocha Moya upon announcing his return to office.
Why did Rubén Rocha Moya request a leave of absence?
Rocha Moya explained that he decided to temporarily step down from the governorship to face the investigation without making use of the constitutional immunity corresponding to his office.
The governor maintained that the accusations against him were made without evidence and attributed them to political motivations and foreign interests.
The governor on leave had been pointed out from the United States for possible links to members of organized crime. In July, the FGR indicated that until then it had no evidence regarding the possible ties between Rocha Moya and the Sinaloa Cartel, although it specified that the investigation was ongoing.

With his return, Rubén Rocha Moya assured that he will continue to lead the state Executive Branch until October 31, 2027, the date on which his mandate concludes.
The governor also reaffirmed his membership in Morena and his support for the Fourth Transformation project, in addition to expressing his support for President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“Today I return to the exercise of my responsibility as Governor of Sinaloa with my forehead clean and held high,” he noted.
Rocha Moya's return also comes at a moment of high political tension in Sinaloa, after the FGR recently detained Fausto Corrales, identified as a key witness in the investigations related to the kidnapping of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén.
