Renowned businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego became a topic of conversation on social media this Friday after a clip of his recent appearance on the program Ventaneando went viral. The circulating video shows a moment where he is seen wiping his face and near his eyes, as if he were crying. What happened? Here is what we know.
Salinas Pliego was invited to the studio of the entertainment program hosted by Pati Chapoy to mark the 30th anniversary of Ventaneando, an occasion he used to congratulate the entire team that has made it possible for the show to remain on the air all this time.
During his appearance, he addressed various topics, such as the most complicated moments he has experienced alongside Pati Chapoy. "The person who decided that this program should air 30 years ago was you," the journalist told Salinas. "Things have changed because this content no longer just airs on TV but on social media (...) Thank you to you because you are the professionals at making this content attractive, which generates the audiences that watch us," the businessman replied.
In some segments of the interview, Salinas Pliego appeared moved while recalling the anecdotes he shares with Chapoy, and also during the moment he spoke about his work: "There is nothing else to do but work, right, although sometimes the 'government types' do go too far because they mistreat us; the people who work, we do it because we like it."
He added: "If we don't take care of the environment and if people like me don't get involved in taking care of the environment... where are we going to live later... it is very possible that we will end up like Venezuela; I mean, look, I love going to Miami on vacation, but I wouldn't like to go into exile and be forced to live in a country that isn't my own."
However, the moment that went viral on social media where Salinas Pliego is seen "wiping away tears" was before they went on air; he appears emotional, and Pati Chapoy hands him a tissue, which he takes and uses to wipe his face.
So far, it is unknown why the businessman did this, nor has it been confirmed that he was crying during his visit to the program Ventaneando. Nevertheless, social media users criticized him for this action, saying they do not believe him, especially given the controversy surrounding his tax payments.
