During the early hours of this Thursday, August 13, 2026, the SSN reported several seismic movements in different parts of the country.
As of 10:00 AM, the movement with the highest magnitude recorded was 4.3.
The earthquake occurred at 08:14:25 AM, 55 kilometers southwest of Mapastepec, Chiapas, and had a depth of 60.8 kilometers, according to the SSN report.
Due to its characteristics, this movement did not activate the seismic alert in Mexico City (CDMX).
According to the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, for an earthquake to activate the seismic alert in CDMX, it must be of a magnitude close to 6, although it also depends on factors such as the location of the epicenter and the estimated energy of the movement.

¿Cuándo habrá Simulacro en la CDMX?
The Second National Drill 2026 will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 12:00 PM with the goal of "promoting the active participation of society to reduce disaster risks," according to Laura Velázquez Alzúa, head of the National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC).
