The Republican explained that U.S. forces had only a few minutes to intercept and shoot down the ballistic missiles launched by Tehran, and added that he reviewed a video showing how the military communicated coordinates in real-time during the operation.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attack on Wednesday, which took place on a day of renewed crossfire, in which the U.S. and Saudi Arabia carried out precision airstrikes against positions of terrorist groups aligned with Iran in eastern Iraq.
Washington responded this way to more than thirty drone attacks led by the IRGC against U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure in the last 72 hours, according to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
Trump indicated to Fox News on Wednesday that the joint U.S. and Saudi attacks against the Shiite militias in Iraq allied with Iran were coordinated in advance with the Iraqi government.
The U.S. President labeled these groups a "cancer" and warned that he is studying further actions against them.
These attacks raise the temperature and keep negotiations in the war—which has now exceeded five months—in suspense, after Trump ordered a pause in hostilities to advance stalled peace talks.
