The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) announced that it will terminate the contract with Territorium Life, S.A.P.I. de C.V. in advance, the company in charge of administering online entrance exams for high school and undergraduate studies, in addition to initiating three audits to review the contracting process and the operation of the system used.
The decision was made known by the UNAM's general counsel, Hugo Alejandro Concha Cantú, who assured that the measures seek to guarantee transparency, determine responsibilities, and strengthen trust in the admission processes.
Likewise, the University clarified what will happen to the applicants who participated in the entrance process and those who must take the control exam.

The University explained that the audits aim to review both the hiring of the company and the functioning of the system used during the entrance exams.
The reviews will be:
- Una Auditoría Tecnológica, realizada por una firma especializada para analizar el sistema y el proceso de aplicación de los exámenes.
- Una auditoría de la Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF), solicitada por el rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, para verificar el cumplimiento de la normatividad y determinar si existieron responsabilidades.
- Una Auditoría Interna, que será realizada por la Contraloría de la propia UNAM para revisar el proceso de contratación.
Concha Cantú pointed out that the intention is not to protect the company nor to point out responsibilities without evidence.
"We have no interest in protecting the company, but also no interest in accusing without evidence," he stated.
¿Por qué la UNAM terminó el contrato con Territorium?
The University reported that it decided to terminate the contract in advance with Territorium Life, the company that participated in the administration of the online undergraduate and high school exams.
As part of the process, the company must hand over the databases that belong to the institution to the UNAM to continue with the investigations and the determination of responsibilities.
The decision comes while a technical commission of specialists continues to analyze the process to issue recommendations.
¿Qué pasará con los aspirantes de la UNAM?
One of the main questions from students was whether the investigations would affect the admission process.
The UNAM's answer is no.
The institution confirmed that:
- El examen de control continúa como estaba previsto en la convocatoria del Concurso de Selección para el ciclo escolar 2026-2027/1.
- Los aspirantes no deberán realizar ningún pago adicional para presentar dicho examen.
- Los procesos de selección seguirán desarrollándose conforme al calendario establecido.
In addition, the University reiterated that the control exam is part of the mechanisms provided for in the call for applications and serves to verify results when there are indications of irregularities.
¿La UNAM cancela exámenes únicamente por sospechas?
The general counsel clarified that the University does not invalidate exams based on simple suspicions.
He explained that there is a system that generates alerts when it detects irregular behaviors and that personnel from the General Directorate of School Administration determine if there are sufficient elements to cancel an evaluation.
"The University does not cancel exams based on mere presumption; it cancels because it has evidence," he emphasized.
¿Cuánto pagó la UNAM por el contrato con Territorium?
During the conference, the financial terms of the contract were also announced.
The UNAM reported that:
- El contrato contemplaba atender entre 154 mil y 385 mil aspirantes.
- El costo por aspirante fue de 227.85 pesos más IVA, equivalente a 264.31 pesos.
Up to this moment, the University has paid 69 million 189 thousand 760.38 pesos.
Of that amount:
- 41 millones 907 mil 830.75 pesos corresponden a 158 mil 558 aspirantes de licenciatura.
- 27 millones 281 mil 929.63 pesos fueron destinados a 103 mil 221 aspirantes de bachillerato.
¿El contrato afectó el presupuesto de la UNAM?
The administrative secretary, Tomás Humberto Rubio Pérez, assured that it did not.
He explained that the selection processes are not financed with the ordinary budget assigned to the University, but with self-generated extraordinary income, so the audits and the termination of the contract will not affect other academic or administrative areas.
