The New York Police Department is investigating a video in which several people are seen exiting a manhole in Midtown Manhattan in the early hours of the morning. This is the latest in a series of puzzling incursions into the city's sewer system reported in recent months, according to local media reports this Monday.

In the most recent video, posted on X in the last few hours, at least three apparently young men dressed in work overalls are seen coming out of the underground. One of them has a flashlight still lit on his head, and they walk away from the scene after the last person covers the manhole.

According to the ABC channel, the police are reviewing the video, which was recorded after 4:00 a.m. last Tuesday in the vicinity of the central Penn Station train station, in Midtown Manhattan.
It also indicates that the Department of Environmental Protection inspected the sewer system and did not find any structural damage.
Why are several people entering and exiting the New York sewers?
Last June, the media reported on at least three such incursions into the sewer system captured by security cameras, in which people were seen exiting or entering those manholes in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.
The individuals involved generally wore work clothes, and in some cases, they carried tools such as shovels.
These incursions into the sewer system have baffled residents, as the motives are unknown, and have led authorities to warn about the dangers of gases and floods that can surprise anyone not qualified to access the underground, in addition to the illegality of doing so.
In May, a related incident caused a stir when a 56-year-old woman stepped out of her parked vehicle in Midtown Manhattan and fell into a manhole that had been left uncovered on the roadway, which contained high-temperature vapors that killed her in a matter of minutes. EFE
