Actor Bryan Cranston was "deeply saddened" to learn of the death of his fictional son from the popular series 'Breaking Bad', RJ Mitte, who has passed away at the age of 34.
In a post on his Instagram profile, Cranston wrote: "I am deeply saddened to be writing this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on 'Breaking Bad', has died."
"I met him when he was only 14, when he was cast to play Walter White Jr., a role he embodied with such joy and enthusiasm. Born with cerebral palsy, he never—ever—let that challenge be an excuse for anything. He faced the demanding shooting schedule with great determination," he added.
The actor noted that Mitte always listened to the advice given by his television parents (Anna Gunn and Cranston himself), although, being a teenager, he sometimes ignored them as well.
"He was one of the stars of a hit television show, but he was still a kid. That kid was quite inexperienced when we started filming the pilot in February 2007, but little by little we watched him grow into a really good actor. He used his experience on the show to be a staunch advocate for artists with disabilities and was the director of a philanthropic organization focused on helping the disabled community. All that promise and potential is now a great loss."
The actor also noted that it has been confirmed that the cause of Mitte's death was suicide.
"It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life," he wrote. "Why? We were texting just a few weeks ago, thinking about when we could get together for lunch. I don't know if that lunch would have changed his future... But I do know that I loved him and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the show… I will miss you, son," he recounted.
Mitte, who became an activist for the rights of people with disabilities following his experience living with cerebral palsy since age 3, died on Monday at his home in Brownsville (Texas).
The actor was only 14 years old when he began working on 'Breaking Bad' and appeared in 56 of the 62 episodes of the AMC series throughout its five seasons from 2008 to 2013.
