The return of BTS to Mexico and the construction of a K-pop culture center were part of the agenda of the meeting between President Claudia Sheinbaum and her South Korean counterpart this Thursday.
Sheinbaum was a great promoter for the popular youth band to include more dates during their visit to Mexico this year. She even went so far as to ask President Lee Jae Myung to intercede for her cause without success.
The president asks for a new tour at every opportunity that presents itself. She did so, for example, when she received BTS themselves at the National Palace and presented the band on the honorary balcony before 50,000 fans gathered in the capital's Zócalo.
"We look forward to the arrival of BTS in Mexico again in 2027," Sheinbaum said with a smile in the joint statement at the end of the meeting with Lee.
"The enthusiasm of Mexican youth for K-pop and Korean gastronomy is a sign of that closeness that is growing between our peoples."
Music, gastronomy, television, and other South Korean products are causing a sensation among young Mexicans.
The president announced the construction of a "K-pop culture center" in Mexico, as well as a cultural institute of the Latin American country in South Korea.
"The affection of the Mexican people for Korean culture is truly special," said President Lee.
Lee's visit coincided with the concerts that the K-pop group Stray Kids will offer on Friday and Saturday in the capital.
Sheinbaum announced earlier that the government gave away 10 tickets to low-income children.
In addition to culture, both countries agreed to strengthen economic and technological ties.
South Korea will provide defense technology to "contribute to the modernization of the Mexican" armed forces. Sheinbaum highlighted the potential for collaboration in "electromobility" and artificial intelligence.
