Prince George, second in line to the British throne, begins a new stage of his education this Tuesday at Eton College, one of the most prestigious private schools in the United Kingdom, where his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry, studied.
George, 13, joins this historic institution located in the county of Berkshire, near Windsor, as a boarder after having studied at Lambrook, the private school also attended by his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
The prince's arrival on his first day was covered by only a few selected media outlets, including the BBC, which showed the teenager entering the facility flanked by his parents, William and Kate.
It is expected that there will not be excessive media coverage of his activities on the school grounds and in the town of Eton in the future.
A few days ago, the Prince and Princess of Wales sent a letter to the press regulator IPSO to remind them that the privacy of their underage son must be respected so that he can complete his studies "without intrusion," which also applies to images or videos from individuals and content disseminated on social media.
Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton has educated 20 British prime ministers, including Robert Walpole, considered the country's first head of government, William Gladstone, David Cameron, and Boris Johnson.
The list of former students also includes writers such as George Orwell and Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, and actors such as Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, and Eddie Redmayne.
The school, which is exclusively male and a boarding institution, charges around 65,000 pounds per year for the 2026-27 academic year (approximately 1,493,806.60 Mexican pesos).
George follows in the footsteps of his father, who studied at Eton between 1995 and 2000, and his uncle, who did so between 1998 and 2003.
In an interview in June 2000, when he was 18 years old, Prince William said he had enjoyed being able to conduct himself at Eton "like any other student," despite his status as a member of the royal family.
On the other hand, King Charles III studied at Gordonstoun, in the Scottish Highlands, as did his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Charles later described his time at Gordonstoun, in a conversation with his biographer Jonathan Dimbleby, as "a prison sentence," although he acknowledged that the experience instilled in him self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
As the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, George is destined to become king after his father, and this stage at Eton is considered key to his training as a future head of state.
