Martha Higareda surprised everyone this Tuesday by revealing the severe health crisis that left her 'between life and death' following the birth of her twins.
Although her husband, influencer Lewis Howes, announced the arrival of their daughters a month ago with a tender photo amidst 'some health scares,' the 42-year-old Mexican actress finally reappeared on social media today, where she is usually very active, providing details of what happened after giving birth.
'With deep gratitude to God, I am alive. After the birth of our babies and one of them being in intensive care, we returned home,' Martha posted alongside several photos in which, in addition to appearing with her babies and husband, she also shared images of herself hospitalized.
Higareda recounted that the crisis was such that she lived 'a spiritual experience where I was shown what would happen if I stayed or left.'
She detailed that, after being discharged and already at home, her health deteriorated, and she realized her blood pressure had spiked. Her husband, Lewis, rushed her to the emergency room, where they reported her blood pressure was at 215.
'They spent almost 6 hours trying to stabilize me. The diagnosis: preeclampsia. In this month and a half, I went back to the emergency room twice.'
As is well known among those who follow Martha Higareda on her podcasts, she is an extremely religious woman. Therefore, when recounting her health problems, she asserted that it was divine intervention through the medical team that pulled her through.
'I know that God and the rosary saved me. My husband held my hand and Jesus held my heart. God gave me the opportunity to stay here. And then my pressure started to stabilize.'
Since she first expressed her desire to become a mother, the actress had shared the physical, mental, and emotional challenges she faced on social media.
Later, when announcing her pregnancy, she and her husband happily posted more photos of the actress's changes. However, in the final weeks near the birth, both stopped posting, which alarmed their fans. It was only several weeks later that Lewis gave a brief update.
Nevertheless, the secrecy remained for a while longer until Martha broke the silence with this news, prompting several friends from the industry to show their support, including Anahí, Cecilia Suárez, Sharis Cid, and Odalys.
¿Qué riesgos implica la preeclampsia posparto que sufrió Martha Higareda?
According to the Mayo Clinic in the United States, postpartum preeclampsia, like the one Martha Higareda suffered, 'is a rare condition that occurs when a woman has high blood pressure and excess protein in her urine shortly after childbirth.'
Medical specialists indicate that it usually manifests during pregnancy; however, there are clinical cases indicating it can occur 48 hours after delivery or up to six weeks later.
'Postpartum preeclampsia requires immediate treatment. If left untreated, postpartum preeclampsia can lead to seizures and other serious complications,' the medical institution specializing in research states on its website.
