The low-cut black dress that Diana wore on the night of June 29, 1994, will be auctioned by Sotheby's in New York on December 9, 2026, with an estimated price between 150,000 and 300,000 dollars. The garment is one of the most iconic in existence, as Lady Di wore it just after the then-Prince Charles publicly admitted to his infidelity.

Does Harry want to buy Diana's "revenge dress" for Meghan Markle?
The possibility of Prince Harry buying Diana's dress for Meghan Markle began to draw attention after it became known that the piece would return to the market. According to journalist Rob Shuter, a source told him that "Harry sees that dress as a symbol of his mother reclaiming her power."
In addition, the Duke of Sussex wants the dress to remain linked to his mother: "He doesn't want it to end up in a collector's closet," the informant told Shuter.
Likewise, the source stated that Harry believed Meghan should be the owner of the historic garment. "For Harry, Meghan wearing or even just owning Diana's revenge dress would be incredibly meaningful (...) it would be saying: 'Diana survived them, Meghan survived them'," he asserted.
Thus, Meghan could become the new owner of the dress due to her well-known admiration for Diana's style and because on different occasions she has worn clothing or fashion references associated with her mother-in-law.
As of now, it is not confirmed that Harry is going to buy his mother's "revenge dress," and much less that he will gift it to his wife.

The story behind the dress is what turned it into one of the most famous garments of the British royal family. Diana wore it on June 29, 1994, at a charity dinner organized by Vanity Fair at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
That same night, a television interview was broadcast in which the then-Prince Charles publicly admitted that he had been unfaithful during his marriage to Diana.
Diana then appeared in a daring black silk dress, off the shoulders and form-fitting, designed by Christina Stambolian. The choice was interpreted as a powerful statement of security and independence during one of the most complicated moments of her life. From there arose the popular name "revenge dress."
