The Irish band U2 will headline the halftime show for the National Football League (NFL) game to be held in California on Thanksgiving Eve, announced Netflix on Tuesday, which is in charge of the game's broadcast.
U2's performance will be held at SoFi Stadium, in the city of Inglewood, in Los Angeles County, on Wednesday, November 25, during the game between the Rams, who will play as hosts, and the Green Bay Packers.
The performance "coincides with the 50th anniversary celebration of U2, which formed in Dublin in 1976, and will add a historic moment to the prime-time matchup," Netflix indicated in a statement.
The Irish band returns to one of the most-watched stages in the United States following their appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2002.
"There is a reason why U2 has been filling stadiums for decades: they don't just perform, they create iconic moments that the audience remembers forever," stated Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos in the release.
Their performance continues a tradition of featuring renowned artists to sweeten the halftime of the most-followed sport in the country, such as when American star Beyoncé participated in the 2024 performance during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans for the Christmas game.
Last year, said performance was led by American rapper Snoop Dogg with the participation of country singer Lainey Wilson, as well as Andrea and Matteo Bocelli and HUNTR/X, the voices behind the 'KPop Demon Hunters' phenomenon.
