According to the informational card issued by the hospital on September 3, 2026, the event was detected on August 31 and is temporarily associated with the consumption of food provided by the outsourced institutional dining service.
How many doctors are affected by the outbreak?
The hospital reported that 135 resident and high-specialty physicians presented symptoms, primarily:
- Dolor abdominal
- Diarrea
- Febrícula
- Vómito
As of Thursday, September 3, 41 people remain hospitalized to receive monitoring and treatment.
The hospital stated that all are in stable condition and under medical observation.
Salmonella confirmed in analyzed cases
As part of the epidemiological investigation, laboratory studies were conducted.
The analyses corroborated the presence of Salmonella spp. in the analyzed cases. Additionally, in two of them, a coinfection with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) was detected.

The outbreak is temporarily associated with the consumption of food provided by the outsourced institutional dining service.
However, the institution is keeping the epidemiological and health investigation open to determine the specific source of contamination.
General Hospital suspends dining service
Given the increase in cases, the General Hospital of Mexico reported that it immediately suspended the outsourced dining service for resident physicians.
Additionally, it is maintaining a strategy for searching and monitoring potentially exposed individuals.
