Javier Aguirre had several job offers after leaving the technical direction of the Mexican National Team, but one of those that caught the attention of soccer fans the most was the proposal he allegedly received from the Ecuadorian National Team after the 2026 World Cup.
According to Marca, the Ecuadorian side allegedly made an offer to "Vasco" Aguirre to join their project following the departure of their head coach, Sebastián Beccacece.
However, the media outlet points out that the proposal "did not move forward" and that Aguirre ultimately opted for Valencia, a Spanish team.
In addition to Ecuador, countries such as South Korea and Saudi Arabia also had "Vasco" Aguirre in their sights to coach their national teams heading into the next World Cup.
The proposal from Ecuador caused a stir among Mexican fans due to the controversy that arose after Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
The match prompted several complaints from the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) to FIFA, including a grievance regarding the serenade that Mexican fans brought to the hotel where their team was staying the day before the match.

Speaking to reporters, Javier Aguirre revealed that he had rejected four job offers before choosing Valencia.
Furthermore, he explained that he decided on the Spanish team not only because of its history, but also because of his deep roots in the country.
"I was talking about it with [my wife] Silvia. We were in limbo, between calling it quits once and for all. We had rejected four job offers from different countries, including Mexico. But in the end, we decided on this one because it has been in Spain for many years. We have deep roots there, my children studied there, and I spent 15 seasons there, so we said okay, this will be a good conclusion to my career, for the end," said Aguirre.
Aguirre added that he was "excited" and eager to "work" and "help" Valencia. He also explained that after they called him, they reached an agreement in "five minutes."
