Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), distanced himself this Tuesday from any accusations linking him to fuel smuggling or "fiscal fuel theft," and denounced an alleged media campaign and "smear campaign" against him.

"Regarding the accusations referring to my alleged relationship with the so-called fiscal fuel theft, I also want to categorically deny it, since I have nothing to do with said crimes, in which they perversely want to involve me," asserted López Beltrán—through a broadcast shared on social media—from the state of Tabasco (southeast).

The politician, who aspires to become a federal deputy for District 6 of Tabasco, rejected the allegations made by different media outlets involving him in customs irregularities and alleged dealings with maritime authorities.

"I have never spoken with any official from the Secretariat of the Navy, neither directly, nor by phone, nor by any other means," asserted the former Secretary of Organization of the National Executive Committee of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

López Beltrán accused that the person who mentioned him in the case was detained in Argentina and received offers of immunity from agents of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to testify against the Mexican government, his father, and his family.

In his message, the accused held businessmen Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of TV Azteca, and journalists Carlos Loret de Mola and Ramón Alberto Garza responsible for coordinating an alleged smear campaign promoted by economic power groups that, he said, seek to recover old privileges.

López Beltrán also reiterated that he does not maintain commercial ties or complicity with businessman Jorge Amílcar Olán, a contractor identified in journalistic reports for public assignments in strategic works and health sector purchases.

"At no time have we recommended or interceded for any person or company with the intention of benefiting them with contracts or public budget from the multiple institutions and levels of government," maintained the son of López Obrador while reading a clarification previously issued in July 2024.

The statement comes at a time when the politician is conducting community tours in Tabasco as an aspirant for the Morena candidacy for a federal deputyship in the 2027 elections.

The allegation also comes canceled last August, in a measure that the politician himself described as a political reprisal promoted by officials of the neighboring country.

The statements come amidst electoral litigation from the opposition against him for alleged early campaign acts in Tabasco and media allegations that the Attorney General's Office has ruled out investigating formally.
