The prostate cancer suffered by former US President Joe Biden has worsened and metastasized "into his bones and other parts," his son Hunter revealed in a recent interview with the BBC.
In May 2025, just four months after leaving office as the oldest serving president, Biden revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.
Subsequently, he began treatment, which included radiotherapy and hormone therapy.
When announcing the publication of his memoirs in July, the former president stated that the treatment was going "really well."
In an extensive interview published Friday night on the BBC Newsnight program, Hunter Biden revealed that his father's disease has spread despite the treatment.
"The cancer has spread and metastasized into his bones and other parts," said Biden.
"It is very painful and, in many respects, very debilitating, but he's still out there. He's still doing his thing... he believes deeply in this country," he added.
Hunter Biden appeared to become emotional at times during the interview while talking about his father's health.
"It's really, really hard, and it's really sad to see," he added.
Despite persistent doubts about his health as the oldest US president, Biden decided to run for reelection in 2024, at the age of 81.
After a disastrous performance in a debate against Trump in June 2024 and a wave of pressure from Democrats, Biden announced his withdrawal from the race.
Trump ended up defeating the candidate who replaced Biden, the then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Republican, who turned 80 in June, will surpass Biden's age record by the time he leaves office in January 2029.
