The wife of one of the five people who died in the accident that occurred last Sunday, when a van was struck by an Amazon cargo plane near Miami International Airport, filed a lawsuit against the e-commerce giant this Wednesday.
The lawsuit, which was reported by local media, also includes Amazon Air Cargo and other companies related to the operation of the aircraft, as well as the plane's pilots, who have already been discharged from the hospital.
The document alleges that the accident was the result of a chain of failures, including pilot error, inadequate training, and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft.
The plane crash occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time on Sunday (18:00 GMT) when the Amazon plane veered off the runway and traveled about 400 meters beyond the paved surface before crashing into several vehicles.
One of them was an airport cleaning services van in which seven occupants were traveling, five of whom died.
According to Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, the deceased were Rolando Alemán León, 55; Yoel Rodríguez Narajo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.
The plane, a Boeing 767-300, had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the two crew members on board.
