The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) of Mexico has called on the population to stay informed and follow the instructions of local authorities regarding the continuous rains forecast for this Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the interaction of various meteorological systems will cause significant rainfall in different regions of Mexico, with accumulations of up to 75 millimeters, conditions that could increase the risk of flash floods, rising rivers and streams, and landslides.

The CNPC requested extreme caution, especially in areas where rain persists for several hours and in mountainous regions.
Where will it rain heavily this Thursday, August 27?
For this Thursday, August 27, heavy rains with punctual very heavy rains, from 50 to 75 mm, are forecast in regions of:
- Sinaloa
- Jalisco
- Colima
- Michoacán
- Guerrero
- Oaxaca
- Veracruz
- Tabasco
- Campeche
- Yucatán
Showers with heavy punctual rains of 25 to 50 mm are also expected in:
- Sonora
- Nayarit
- Puebla
- Chiapas
- Quintana Roo
Likewise, there will be intervals of showers from 5 to 25 mm in Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Morelos, and Tlaxcala.
Finally, isolated rains of 0.1 to 5 mm are expected in Baja California, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Querétaro, and Hidalgo.
Where will it rain heavily on Friday, August 28?
The forecast for Friday, August 28, maintains rainy conditions across much of the country.
Heavy rains with punctual very heavy rains of 50 to 75 mm are expected in:
- Sonora
- Sinaloa
- Jalisco
- Colima
- Michoacán
- Guerrero
- Puebla
- Oaxaca
- Veracruz
There will also be showers with heavy punctual rains of 25 to 50 mm in Baja California Sur, Durango, Nayarit, the State of Mexico, Chiapas, and Tabasco.
Meanwhile, intervals of showers from 5 to 25 mm are forecast in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Mexico City, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
Isolated rains of 0.1 to 5 mm are expected in Baja California, Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes.
Why can rain cause flash floods?
Civil Protection explained that the persistence of rain can create risky conditions, particularly when abundant precipitation is recorded in high-altitude areas.
Water accumulation can quickly saturate the soil and cause the liquid to descend rapidly from mountains and ranges toward low-lying areas.
This can cause sudden rises in rivers and streams and flash floods capable of catching communities by surprise.
In cities, constant rain can also saturate drainage systems and cause severe ponding and flash floods on streets and avenues.
What does Civil Protection recommend during rain?
The CNPC asked the population to remain attentive to official channels and monitor their surroundings to identify danger signs.
Among the main recommendations are:
- No cruzar ríos, arroyos, vados o zonas inundadas, ya sea a pie o en vehículo.
- Evitar acercarse a laderas, taludes y zonas montañosas ante el riesgo de deslaves y caída de rocas.
- Asegurar techos de lámina, puertas y ventanas.
- Mantenerse alejado de árboles, espectaculares y cables de energía eléctrica que pudieran caer.
- Identificar con anticipación rutas de evacuación y refugios temporales si la vivienda se encuentra en una zona vulnerable a inundaciones.
- Permanecer atento a los avisos de las autoridades de Protección Civil.
