The first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, joked on Thursday about the speculation regarding the month she spent out of the public eye.
"Good afternoon. I heard you missed me. I'm here," she said with a laugh at the opening of an event in the White House Rose Garden.
She and her octogenarian husband, President Donald Trump, walked hand-in-hand from the Oval Office. The Republican sat among the audience.
The event was for the donation from IndyCar and Fox Corporation to fund college scholarships, ahead of an IndyCar race in Washington for the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence.
Melania, 56, had not been seen in public since the FIFA World Cup final on July 19.
The 56-year-old Slovenian-born former model did not participate in a series of important events, including the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner on July 24.
According to an NBC analysis on Monday, Melania Trump has attended nearly half as many public events compared to those she attended during the same period during her husband's first presidency.
Her return to the public eye also comes amid speculation about Trump's loyal executive assistant Natalie Harp, one of the few people who accompanied the president during the Air Force One swap in Turkey due to a security threat.
