The weather today, Monday, September 14, will be marked by a strong contrast in Mexico: while several regions will face intense and very heavy rains, minimum temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius are expected in mountainous areas.
According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the most significant precipitation will be concentrated in northern Sinaloa, where it could reach between 75 and 150 millimeters.

In addition, very heavy rains of 50 to 75 mm are expected in regions of Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.
The rains could be accompanied by electrical discharges, strong wind gusts, and hail, as well as cause landslides, rises in river and stream levels, overflowing, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Where will it rain heavily today?
The SMN forecast contemplates:
- Lluvias intensas de 75 a 150 mm: norte de Sinaloa.
- Lluvias muy fuertes de 50 a 75 mm: Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Veracruz y Oaxaca.
- Lluvias fuertes de 25 a 50 mm: Coahuila, Nuevo León, Michoacán, Guerrero, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Estado de México, Puebla y Chiapas.
- Chubascos de 5 a 25 mm: Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Ciudad de México, Tlaxcala, Morelos, Tabasco, Campeche y Yucatán.
- Lluvias aisladas: Quintana Roo.
For this Monday, wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are also forecast in Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán.
In which states will it be coldest?
Although the hot to very hot environment will continue in the north of the country, the dawn left minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 °C in mountainous areas of:
- Michoacán
- Estado de México
- Tlaxcala
- Hidalgo
- Puebla
This means that the country will have very contrasting conditions: extreme heat in some regions and cold in high areas, in addition to significant rain.

The heat will not give a reprieve in the north and other regions of the country.
Maximum temperatures of 40 to 45 °C are expected in northeastern Baja California and northwestern Sonora.
Temperatures of 35 to 40 °C are also expected in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Morelos, Puebla, Veracruz, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
Furthermore, the heat wave continues in regions of Durango, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
What is causing the rains?
The SMN explains that these conditions are generated by the Mexican monsoon, atmospheric instability, various low-pressure channels, cyclonic circulations, and troughs in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere.
Added to these systems is tropical wave number 39, which will move over the western part of the country.
The SMN also maintains surveillance over Tropical Storm Norbert and Tropical Depression Fifteen-E in the Pacific; however, due to their location and trajectory, neither of the two systems currently affects Mexico.
Swell of up to 3 meters
Adverse conditions are also expected on the coasts.
There will be ground swell with waves of 1 to 2 meters in Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas.
On the western coast of Baja California, the swell could reach between 2 and 3 meters.
