An operation by federal forces resulted in the arrest of nine alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Michoacán, including Marisol “N” and Lourdes “N”, identified by authorities as the daughter and romantic partner, respectively, of Heraclio “N”, alias “Tío Lako”, who is pointed out as a regional leader of the criminal organization.

The arrests took place this Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during operations carried out in Tinaja de Vargas, municipality of Tanhuato, and Colesio, in Ecuandureo, reported the Secretariat of National Defense.

The deployment was led by Special Forces of the Mexican Army and the National Guard, in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the Mexican Navy.

Who was arrested during the operation against the CJNG in Michoacán?

According to the official report, nine people identified as members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel were arrested.

Among them are Marisol “N” and Lourdes “N”, pointed out by authorities as the daughter and romantic partner of Heraclio “N”, alias “Tío Lako”, respectively.

Authorities identify “Tío Lako” as a regional leader of the CJNG with operations in Michoacán and Jalisco.

They also hold him responsible for having ordered attacks against members of the National Guard that occurred on February 22, 2026.

What was seized during the operation in Michoacán?

Authorities reported that during the arrests, two properties, 64 vehicles—one of them armored—, seven motorcycles, and a drone were seized.

They also reported the seizure of a .50 caliber machine gun, four 5.56 mm caliber Minimi machine guns, nine long guns, one handgun, and two grenade launcher attachments.

In addition, cartridges and magazines of various calibers, drugs, eight improvised explosive devices, and tactical equipment were located.

Everything seized was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities as part of the investigations.

Operation triggers blockades in Michoacán

Following the arrests, blockades and interruptions occurred on different highways and roads in Michoacán, leading authorities to activate the Anti-Blockade Plan to restore free passage.

From the early hours of Wednesday, reports had been made of blockades, burned vehicles, and other violent events in different parts of the state.

President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed during her morning conference that the actions were related to a federal operation directed against one or several targets considered relevant.

“There is an arrest operation for one target or several relevant targets,” explained the president before authorities announced the results of the deployment.

Sheinbaum further indicated that members of the Secretariat of National Defense and other federal forces remained deployed to respond to the actions recorded in the state.

Nine detainees transferred to Mexico City

The nine detainees were transported aboard a Mexican Air Force helicopter to Mexico City, where they were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office.

The FGR will continue with the corresponding investigations and forensic analysis to determine the legal status of each of the arrested individuals.

The operation occurs amidst the strengthening of security implemented by the federal government in Michoacán, an entity where authorities maintain deployments in the face of disputes between criminal organizations and crimes such as drug trafficking and extortion.
