The 2026-2027 school year is about to begin next Monday, August 31, for basic education schools nationwide, according to the official calendar established by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
But given the fact that millions of students are returning to the classrooms, anticipation has arisen regarding the upcoming mandatory rest days, vacations, and class suspensions. What days will there be no classes?
The SEP calendar indicates that there will be nine suspensions of teaching duties, most due to public holidays. In addition, eight days of suspension for Technical Council and two vacation periods are marked.
The days marked for the suspension of classes are:
- Miércoles 16 de septiembre, que será el primer descanso oficial tras el regreso a clases
- Lunes 2 de noviembre, por el Día de Muertos
- Lunes 16 de noviembre, por el aniversario de la Revolución Mexicana, 20 de noviembre (se recorre al lunes)
- Viernes 25 de diciembre, Navidad (aunque ya son vacaciones de invierno)
- Viernes 1 de enero, Año Nuevo (aún son vacaciones)
- Martes 6 de enero, Día de Reyes
- Lunes 1 de febrero, por el Día de la Constitución, 5 de febrero (se recorre al lunes)
- Lunes 15 de marzo (se recorre al lunes)
- Miércoles 5 de mayo, por aniversario de la Batalla de Puebla
When will there be vacation long weekends?
These are the long weekends that will occur throughout the 2026-2027 school year:
- Lunes 2 de noviembre
- Lunes 16 de noviembre
- Lunes 1 de febrero
- Lunes 15 de marzo
When will there be Technical Council sessions?
As mentioned, there will be eight days of class suspension for Technical Council, and they will be these Fridays:
- 25 de septiembre
- 30 de octubre
- 27 de noviembre
- 29 de enero
- 26 de febrero
- 30 de abril
- 28 de mayo
- 25 de junio
When does the 2026-2027 school year start and end?
Classes corresponding to the 2026-2027 school year for SEP basic education schools begin on Monday, August 31, 2026, and will conclude on Friday, July 9, 2027.
When will there be vacations in the 2026-2027 school year?
Within this cycle, there will be two school recess periods, or vacations. The first will be from December 21, 2026, to January 5, 2027; classes will resume on January 7. The second vacation period will span from March 22 to April 3, 2027.
