On the morning of August 19, road blockades and vehicle burnings were reported in different parts of , as a reaction to a strong deployment of state and federal forces to capture one or more criminal leaders.

The narco-blockades were recorded mainly in the regions of Zamora, La Piedad, and Jiquilpan, although there were also disruptions in other municipalities.

The governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, reported through X that elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), the National Guard, and state corporations reinforced security actions to restore free transit.

"Together with state security corporations, in coordination with the Defense and the National Guard, we are reinforcing operational actions in the regions of Zamora, La Piedad, and Pátzcuaro to restore free transit in the face of road blockades," the governor wrote.

For its part, C5 Michoacán reported that at 9:35 a.m., circulation was reactivated at the following points:

  • Morelia: carretera Morelia–Quiroga, a la altura de El Tigre.
  • Zacapu: crucero Franco Reyes.
  • Tzintzuntzan: carretera Pátzcuaro–Tzintzuntzan, a la altura de Sanabria.
  • Tangancícuaro: carretera estatal Tangancícuaro–Carapan, kilómetro 124, cerca de Los Nogales.
  • Coeneo: carretera Comanja–Coeneo, a la altura de Comanja.

What did Claudia Sheinbaum say about the narco-blockades?

During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the blockades and torched vehicles were the result of an operation to arrest one or more relevant targets.

"There is an arrest operation for one target or several relevant targets, and later the Security Cabinet will provide the information," she stated.

The president avoided revealing which criminal group the targets belonged to and noted that the Secretary of Defense, Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, will offer more details later.

Who was the target of the operation in Michoacán?

According to local media, the operation allegedly targeted Heraclio Guerrero Martínez, alias "El Tío Lako," identified as an alleged lieutenant of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

The outlet Red113 reported that those detained were related to Los Guerreros, a criminal cell allegedly led by "El Tío Lako." However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed, so authorities have not validated the names or the number of detainees.
