The transport strike in Mexico City that was scheduled for this Wednesday, January 21, has been rescheduled following an agreement between the Alianza de Tranviarios de México (ATM) and the CDMX Secretariat of Mobility (SEMOVI). According to authorities, the strike notice has been postponed until February 4, 2026, with the aim of continuing negotiations and thoroughly analyzing the labor demands of the Trolebús, Tren Ligero, and Cablebús operators.

The decision was made after the ATM met with Héctor Ulises García Nieto, head of SEMOVI, and the proposal to extend the strike notice by 15 days was presented. The workers' assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of the extension, showing a willingness to engage in dialogue and a responsible analysis of their labor demands.
Gerardo Martínez, representative of the streetcar workers, indicated that this extension of the transport strike reflects the workers' willingness to seek agreements without giving up the defense of their rights:
“Our commitment is to continue negotiating with firmness and transparency, seeking solutions that benefit the streetcar workers and the city's mobility.”

The agreement will be formally presented before the Labor Tribunal of Mexico City today, Tuesday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m., complying with the corresponding legal procedures. Additionally, a new negotiation meeting between the ATM and SEMOVI will take place tomorrow, January 21, at 1:30 p.m. to advance in building agreements that guarantee decent working conditions and the stability of public transport service in the capital.

Thanks to this extension, the Trolebús, Tren Ligero, and Cablebús service will continue to operate normally today, avoiding massive disruptions to the mobility of thousands of users in the city.
