Was your Aeromexico data leaked? Government investigates a possible exposure of 15 million records

Mexico's Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance warned this Sunday of a possible exposure of personal data in a system allegedly linked to the Mexican airline Aeromexico, following an active forensic monitoring of security incidents.

In a statement, the federal agency warned of the discovery of a post on the Telegram application, spread on September 18, 2026, in which an unnamed user offers a database allegedly attributable to the country's largest airline in terms of fleet and number of destinations.

The database contains more than 15 million records with a file size of 1.10 GB, which include full names, email addresses, phone numbers, cell phone numbers, dates of birth, and registration dates, the document reported.

"This authority obtained a sample of 100,092 records with those same fields, among which names of various people were identified, including public servants and public figures," it highlighted.

It explained that the data obtained during the monitoring is being analyzed to "ex officio initiate an investigation to determine the alleged liability regarding the compromised databases."

It also detailed that the inspection will be carried out in the exercise of the Secretariat's powers to verify compliance with the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, as provided for in articles 54 and 55 of said regulation.

Hours later, Aeromexico issued a statement affirming it was aware of posts regarding the alleged customer database of the company and that it was being offered to third parties.

"We immediately launched an exhaustive investigation to verify the authenticity and veracity of the information, determine its origin, and establish the scope of any possible impact," the text specified.

The company mentioned that, based on the information available, "we have not identified any exposure of financial information, payment card data, or account passwords of our customers, including those corresponding to Aeromexico Rewards."

It also assured that this situation has not affected its operations and that it will collaborate with the authorities in the corresponding investigation.

Finally, it recommended that its customers remain alert to unusual emails, messages, or calls requesting personal or financial information.
