A 5.7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale (preliminary) was recorded by the National Seismological Service this Sunday, August 8 at 3:42 PM, triggering seismic alerts in Mexico City.

According to a report from the agency, the seismic movement had its epicenter 19 km northeast of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, with no damage reported so far, local authorities stated.

The Head of Government of CDMX, Clara Brugada, announced that emergency, security, and communication protocols have been initiated. "Condors are already flying over the city," she noted on X.

"After today's afternoon earthquake, we activated security and response protocols. We continue working in the 16 boroughs to verify conditions and ensure the safety of the citizenry," she noted in another post.

The seismic movement was unpredictable for the capital's residents, according to reports on social media, although the seismic alert caused concern and fright.

The presidential alert, unlike the one on January 2, was not activated on all mobile devices.
