United States President Donald Trump, asked himself this Sunday "When should I blow up the whole nation?" referring to Iran, according to a journalist from the Fox News network.
Trump asserted in the same conversation that he is in a "decision-making phase" regarding Iran, and anticipated that "very important things" will happen in the near future while he weighs various options regarding a war that began on February 28 and has no end in sight.
Fox News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Trey Yingst recounted that he spoke with the president, who told him that the options being contemplated include "wiping out Iran, letting them rot economically, or reaching a deal."
Yingst also explained that Trump told him he would be willing to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
The U.S. President made similar statements last Thursday in an interview with the outlet Axios, in which he asserted, "I have to make a big decision. Do I want to go in and wipe them (the Iranian regime) out or not? It's a big decision. With me, anything can happen."
Trump's statements come at a time when the president's popularity is increasingly affected by the negative consequences on the pockets of Americans due to rising gasoline prices caused by the war with Iran.
This unease is a concern within the ranks of the Republican Party, which sees how the conflict in the Middle East could affect its expectations for the midterm elections on November 3.
